Jorgen (Yon) Wibskov

Yon Wibskov moved to the United States from Denmark in 1979.  He was educated at Copenhagen University as a linguist, with an emphasis on Russian.  His broader interest in culture and the arts resulted in further education on Russian artistic production and 19th century Russian literature and music. Yon began his professional career in business, however, and joined his family’s restaurant venture in Bonne Terre, Missouri upon moving to the United States. After eleven years in the restaurant business, in 1991, he set out on a career change and found a passion for hearing healthcare.

Yon spent the next 25 years building his private practice as a Hearing Instrument Specialist in Farmington, Missouri. In the fall of 2016 Yon sold his business to Dr. Karen Melton, an audiologist and the owner of Hearing Care Providers, also located in Farmington. He is currently the Immediate Past President of the Missouri Hearing Society, continuing to serve on the Board of Directors. Yon previously served on the Board of Directors for Missouri Hearing Society during the time that higher education for Hearing Instrument Specialists was just emerging. He supports lifting the general standards for education in the field of hearing healthcare for Hearing Instrument Specialists. He was very vocal of his support for the development of the Associate of Applied Science in Hearing Instrument Science degree at OTC. Particularly, his focus has been to significantly fortify new members in the career field. His passion for the classroom and for excellence in curriculum has led to his association with OTC’s Hearing Instrument Science Program.

Yon is a part-time adjunct faculty member, specializing in patient relations, hearing device fitting issues, and private practice business matters. Yon was married and has three adult children and seven grandchildren. He lives in Farmington, MO.
