Kat Allie
Ms. Allie is the Department Chair of Fine Arts and Humanities for Ozarks Technical Community College. Kat Allie also serves as a Fine Art Instructor for OTC as well as the manager for the college’s Fine Art Gallery located on the third floor of the Historic Gillioz Theater, located in Springfield, Missouri. Courses Ms. Allie has taught since 2002 at the collegiate level at such institutions as Pittsburg State University, Missouri State University and OTC are: Two Dimensional Design, Three Dimensional Design, Drawing I, Fibers, Painting I and II, Art History I, Portfolio Development and Art and Experience seated and online. Kat is a practicing artist and has been a vital part of the downtown “art scene” since 2006. Ms. Allie’s artwork was previously shown in “figment. Gallery and culture house” within the Randy Bacon Monarch Art Factory where she was a featured studio artist from 2007~2010. Since summer of 2010, Kat Allie’s artwork has been represented and featured by Springfield’s most prestigious gallery hotspot, “Obelisk Home” (www.obeliskhome.com). Kat’s work has been exhibited nationally and has also shown internationally in Japan. Ms. Allie has artwork published in three books and she has received numerous awards for photography, jewelry, mixed media, printmaking and painting. Kat’s chosen medium is encaustic paint, or the ancient form of painting with hot beeswax, dammar resin and colored pigments. After attaining her Associate of Science degree at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas, Ms. Allie attended the University of Kansas for three years as a candidate for a Bachelors of Science degree in Speech-Language-Hearing Pathology. After leaving KU, Kat decided to move to Chicago, Illinois where she was able to explore and discover her passion for life and culture. For six years, Kat was a Sales and Special Events manager for legendary venues in Chicago such as The House of Blues. Longing for more education and formal training in art, Kat moved back to Kansas and passionately obtained her Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from Pittsburg State University as well as a Master of Arts with an emphasis in Painting from PSU. Currently, Kat is a member of the Springfield Regional Arts Council Artist Registry and teaches workshops at the Creamery in downtown Springfield. She is an active member of the arts community and supporter of numerous local organizations and volunteers her time with arts integration and Teaching Artists with Springfield Public Schools. Kat’s work can be found in several private collections and public spaces such as the Springfield Plastic Surgery Center, Buzbee Dental, James River Assembly of God Women’s and Children’s Center, Grove Spa, Hebrews Coffee, the Springfield-Branson National Airport, the Springfield Mayor’s Office, and Ozarks Technical Community College Foundations office and Student Services department. Kat is continually inspired by her sassy redheaded daughter and wonderful husband, who not only supports her creative aspirations, but also makes all the wood supports for her paintings. Ms. Allie loves creating, teaching and inspiring students and viewers to IMAGINE.
