Rick is the guitar faculty at OTC. He started his OTC teaching career by instructing adult continuing education guitar classes in the mid 1990s and graduated to teaching credit classes in 2008. Rick began his college career in 1984 as a student at St. Louis Community College at Meramec where he credits his music teacher, Robert Howard, with inspiring him to teach in a community college setting. After completing an AA in Arts – Music he recieved his Bachelor in Music – Classical Guitar Performance from SMSU, followed by Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Music Therapy. In addition to being a guitar instructor, Rick is a nationally board-certified music therapist, and was in private practice for over 2 years before returning to teach credit classes at OTC. As a classical guitarist, Rick has performed in weddings, corporate events and restaurants in the St. Louis and Springfield-Branson area. He has been the lead guitar player in multiple rock, classic rock, and blues bands; performing in Guadalehara and Tlaquepaque Mexico, in addition to many venues in the Springfield-Branson area. Rick has had the distinct honor of opening for B.B. King, Rick Springfield and Ana Popavic and continues to perform locally with various ensembles.
