About:
Production concept Inspired by the 2018 Big Read, Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven
Twenty years after a major pandemic has decimated the world population–a world devoid of technology and industry–a group of nomadic performers struggle to keep civilization alive by performing classical music and theatre to settlers in a new dark age… because “survival is insufficient.”
The Traveling Symphony’s Midsummer Night’s Dream is an outdoor, immersive theatre event in which a group of performers will present Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in several outdoor spaces around Springfield. The production concept is inspired by this year’s “Big Read,” Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven. Audiences, cast as post-apocalyptic survivors in the world of Station Eleven, will be entertained by William Shakespeare’s classic comedy from within a Traveling Symphony encampment.
