Course Description
This course offers students interested in machining an opportunity to learn the basics needed for employability in the field and create a strong foundation for the future of learning in the Precision Machining Technology program. It’s designed to teach the fundamental skills to safely and efficiently set up and operate various computer-controlled (CNC) machine tools. It includes aspects of applicable math, G&M code programming for setup and editing, process documentation best practices, part inspection, and machine adjustments for feature control.

What You'll Learn:
- Demonstrate safety practices required for the operation of manufacturing equipment.
- Complete proper power-up, homing, cleanup, and shutdown sequences on various CNC
- machine tools.
- Adequately set up tooling and work-holding devices using process documentation and basic
- Load CNC code into CNC controllers.
- Effectively navigate CNC controllers through MDI, HANDLE, EDIT, and MEMORY modes.
- Correctly set tool offsets using probing and conventional methods.
- Properly set work offsets using probing and traditional methods.
- Safely prove CNC programs and setups using graphing, dry run, rapid override, single
- block, and distance-to-go.
- Interpret dimensions and tolerances using standard orthographic drawings.
- Perform quality control inspections using basic measuring tools
