About OTC Computer Information Science

Plug into the future within the ever-expanding computer information sciences field. Designed with industry certification standards developed by Microsoft Corporation, students in this program gain essential knowledge and skills. These skills extend from developing computer applications using programming languages, database programming and more. Students choose one of a variety of emphasis areas to choose what path best matches their interests.

Computer Information Science Associate’s Degree and Certificate

Gain a broad knowledge and skills base within OTC’s Computer Information Science program. Learn how to develop computer applications within the business environment of local industries using current programming languages, database programming and other development tools. The program follows a framework outlined by the National Business Education Association, as well as various industry certification standards, including those developed by Microsoft Corporation. Classes include Technology & Digital Literacy, Web Site Development II, Software Engineering Project and more. Upon completion, students receive an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Science. For an expedited path to employment, students may complete a short-term program and receive a Computer Information Science Certificate.

Associate of Science in Computer Science

This Associate of Science in Computer Science degree program prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university to major in a computer science-related degree program. Students will be introduced to a variety of topics such as algorithm design, data structures, computer programming, and structured mathematics. Since requirements vary at each four-year college or university, students should check with their faculty advisor or the school to which they intend to transfer to ensure they are taking the appropriate courses.

Information Technology

Information Technology is the study of business-focused computing and applications. Information drives our economy, which means every industry from advertising to zoology needs quality IT professionals.  In addition to providing a solid foundation in programming and networking, this program includes business applications, economics, accounting, and the courses students need to understand the applications and user-centric problems that their software needs to solve.

This program is designed as a transfer degree into a four-year Information Technology program and works to provide all of the business, infrastructure, and software development requirements for students to enter as juniors at their target schools.

In Computer Information Sciences, Certificates of Specialization provided additional, lucrative skills to students who have already completed a four-year college or university program.

Computer Programming Certificate of Specialization

Learn to speak the highly specialized language of computer programming with this advanced certification from OTC. The Certificate of Specialization degree program gives students who have already completed a four-year degree additional, lucrative skills, including expanded knowledge of programming to use in today’s workplace. Classes include Problem Solving and Programming Concepts, Database and Query and Advanced Programming Language. Upon completion, students receive the Computer Information Science Computer Programming Certificate of Specialization.

Video Game Development Certificate of Specialization

Develop video games using current programming languages in this immersive advanced certification from OTC. This degree program is recommended for students looking to gain additional technical skills for more lucrative opportunities within video game design and development. Classes include Intro to Computer Game Development, Animation and Game Development. Upon completion, students receive the Computer Information Science Video Game Development Certificate of Specialization

Web Development Certificate of Specialization

Develop programs and applications using current scripting and programming languages used by industry professionals worldwide. This advanced Certificate of Specialization gives students the skills to develop compelling websites. It also helps students utilize PHP programming and gain a deeper knowledge of C# programming. This degree program is recommended for students who have already completed a four-year college or university program and desire to gain additional, lucrative skills. Upon completion, students receive a Computer Information Science Web Development Certificate of Specialization

The mission of the Computer Information Science program at Ozarks Technical Community College is to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills to develop computer applications within the business environment of local industries using current programming languages, database programming, and other necessary development tools.
