EagleTech Borrowing
Ozarks Tech offers temporary technology loans for students through the EagleTech program. Any actively registered student of Ozarks Technical Community College is eligible to borrow a hotspot and/or laptop during the semester they are actively enrolled in. There is a limited supply and students may ask to be placed on the waitlist until a device becomes available.
EagleTech Policies:
- All devices must be borrowed from and returned to the EagleTech service desk during regular operating hours. The EagleTech service desk is currently located at the OTC Library (IC100).
- If no devices are available, students can contact go to the EagleTech page (https://academics.otc.edu/library/eagletech/) on the OTC Library website to request to be placed on the waitlist.
- Students must show a photo ID to verify identity (either OTC or a state issued ID).
- The student is required to be present at the time of check-out. The only exception to this is if the student has made prior arrangements with library staff to send a proxy to check out their item. To make such arrangements, you must contact the EagleTech office at libraryref@otc.edu.
- A student may borrow a laptop and a wi-fi hotspot at the same time, depending on the availability of materials; availability of both devices at the same time is not guaranteed.
- All EagleTech devices have a loan period of 14 days. If no other students are waiting for a device, the student may be able to request a renewal by contacting the library.
- Students have 3 business days to pick up their EagleTech hold. After 3 business days, the device will be given to the next student on the waitlist. The EagleTech office reserves the right to extend the hold period when it is deemed necessary.
- Failure to return EagleTech devices as agreed may result in blocks placed on your student account, holds on registration and transcripts, and a charge for replacement costs.
EagleTech Overdue, Lost, Damaged, Billed, and Deactivated Policies:
To serve students as best as possible and meet the increasing demand of technology loans, the EagleTech office has developed guidelines regarding borrowers who consistently keep devices until the point of device deactivation, frequently return items without all required pieces of equipment, or return items in substandard condition.
Overdue, deactivated, and billed:
- When a device is overdue, service will be shut off the day after the due date. A hold will automatically be placed on the student account. After one week overdue, students will be billed for the replacement cost of all items included in the checkout (devices, cases, bags, charging cables, etc.).
- Once the loan is returned in good condition, the bill will be waived and all holds removed from the student account.
- Students can return items that are billed and deactivated twice.
- After the first incident, the student will receive a verbal and written warning that if they violate the agreement again, their borrowing privileges will be temporarily suspended for six weeks.
- After the second incident, students will lose EagleTech borrowing privileges for six weeks.
- After the six-week period, borrowing privileges will be restored and the opportunity to return items on time and in acceptable condition will reset.
- Repeat offenders may lose EagleTech borrowing privileges.
Damaged, lost, and stolen:
- Students are responsible for taking care of the device and all parts included (bags, chargers, etc.).
- Students will be responsible for the cost of repairs or replacements of any part of the loan.
- Students will be responsible for the cost of replacing lost items.
- If an item is stolen, students must file a police report with the Springfield Police Department and provide a copy of the report to OTC’s Safety and Security Department.
- If the student does not file the reports and provide a copy to Safety and Security, they will be responsible for cost of replacing the items.
Extenuating Circumstances for Borrowing
Proxy Pickup
In the event that a student is unable to physically come to campus to check out materials, they may communicate with library staff to arrange for a proxy to pick up their materials. At this time, it is only possible to check out materials if the proxy can video call at the EagleTech Service Desk (located in the Hamra Library on the Springfield Campus) with the student off-campus.
Extenuating circumstances may include, but are not limited to, short-term or long-term hospitalization, being out of town due to an illness or death in the family, sudden loss of transportation, accommodations provided by the office of Disability Support Services, etc.
In order to arrange a pick-up by a proxy, students must:
- First contact the EagleTech office either by email at libraryref@otc.edu and explain the extenuating circumstance(s). Students must provide the information about their proxy, including relation to the student.
- When the proxy arrives at the EagleTech Service Desk, they must start a video call with the student off-campus. The student must be visible and audible through the device. If EagleTech staff cannot hear or see the student, or the video stream is not live, they reserve the right to decline EagleTech services to the proxy.
- The student must confirm their first and last name, as well as their OTC student ID.
- If the proxy is checking out EagleTech on behalf of the student, they will sign the Technology Loan Agreement as themselves, but the student will be held accountable for the materials checked out.
- EagleTech staff reserve the right to decline or cancel services provided by proxy at any point during the process. Failure to abide by library procedures may result in loss of privileges.
Extending a Loan Period
EagleTech equipment is due by the due date indicated when checking equipment out. Extending a loan period or due date may not always be possible due to student demand and equipment availability.
- First contact the EagleTech office by email at libraryref@otc.edu and explain the extenuating circumstance(s).
- If equipment is not available, the student will need to return the equipment by the due date. The student can then be added to the waiting list.
- If equipment is available with no students on a waiting list, the EagleTech office may allow a loan extension and inform the student.
- In order to extend the loan, the student will need to come to campus with the device (including any accessories that came with it such as chargers, cables, bags or cases). The student will need to fill out a new loan agreement form with the updated due date.
