The OTC Communication and World Languages Department’s mission is to develop students’ abilities to effectively communicate in both oral and written form within a variety of contexts. Our instructors teach students how to express themselves through public speaking, interpersonal communication, small group interactions and many other scenarios they will experience during their careers. We believe that effective communication and appreciation of language can break down intercultural and organizational barriers and create important connections in business, school and students’ personal lives.
Through the study of communication principles and strategies, students increase their competence in creating, transmitting, receiving and responding to messages. Students can choose to study journalism and increase their awareness of media influence and consumption.
Our world languages faculty offer introductory courses in French, Spanish and American Sign Language. We also partner with the Foreign Language Institute to teach lesser-used languages to students of varying ages and experience levels in the greater Springfield area.
