This page will give you a list to help keep track of the items necessary for your application. It also provides deadlines and other important information regarding your application.

STUDENT CHECKLIST

Information about this unique and challenging flight training program is mandatory to make a good go/no-go decision.

Complete and submit your FAFSA. Even if you do not intend to apply for a loan or think you won’t qualify for a grant, most scholarships now require the FAFSA for you to be considered.

A FAA Medical Certificate is required (minimum of 3rd Class) for flight training. Although, please note that qualification for a 1st class medical is required for major airlines.

Take a photo of your certificate, you will need to submit this in your application.

Complete and submit an OTC application with Aviation Flight Technology as your major. You can do this online here. New students must attend a STAR seminar and complete orientation online.

Request official high school and college transcripts. Here’s how.

The following are optional and, if completed, will add to your overall point score.

AVI 101 and Math 130 or higher, as well as any 100 level or above elective class not being used to fulfill above requirements. See application for more details.

Prior flight experience helps to boost your score. Please indicate what your flight hours are in the application.

Aviation Student Application Deadlines

Summer Cohort (June Start) – Priority Deadline is March 31st: Students must complete all optional courses by the end of spring – A block. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Grades below a C, pass/fail grades, and/or incomplete grades in the required coursework are not acceptable.

Selection Sent Out around May 1st

Fall Cohort (August Start) – Priority Deadline is May 31st: Students must complete all optional courses by the end of the spring semester. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Grades below a C, pass/fail grades, and/or incomplete grades in the required coursework are not acceptable.

Selection Sent Out around July 1st

Spring Cohort (January Start) – Priority Deadline is October 31st: Student must complete all optional courses in the fall – A Block. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Grades below a C, pass/fail grades and/or incomplete grades in the required coursework are not acceptable.

Selection Sent Out around December 1st

The program will offer top applicants a position in the class and sent forms regarding FAA compliance. Applicants and alternates not selected for admission need to notify aviation@otc.edu if they wish to pursue admission into the program the following semester.

New students applying must renew applications annually.

Please email aviation@otc.edu before the deadline to confirm that your file is complete. We will not consider incomplete files.

 

**** WHAT IF YOU MISSED THE DEADLINE? ****

Students who apply before the Priority deadline will get preference to admission in the program. However, if you miss the Priority Deadline, please still apply You may qualify to be put on the “Standby List” – a waiting list qualifies you to enter in the case that someone drops or is unable to complete the program.
