Fire Science Student Safety Certification Testing Information

OTC administers the MO DIVISION OF FIRE SAFETY CERTIFICATION EXAMS on the Springfield Campus Testing Services. (Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Technical Rescuer Core)

Fire Science students will receive an email with the information below that will contain the direct scheduling link:

**If a student has deleted or lost the email with the scheduler link please reach out to the instructor or Randy Villines for a new email with the link.

***You MUST schedule your Fire Science exam using ONLY the link contained in the email from the Program. Do NOT schedule your Fire Science exam on the OTC Online and Makeup Scheduler, or else Testing Services will NOT receive your exam information from the State.
  • Once an FST Student successfully completes an FST course that is aligned with a MO Division of Fire Safety certification course, the instructor will submit the required paperwork to the MO Division of Fire Safety. After the Division reviews and approves the paperwork, the FST student will receive an email from the Division that states that student is approved to take the written exam for certification.

  • After confirmation of approval from the Division, the FST student will pick a date and time on the Scheduler Link Sent only in Email by the Program at the OTC Springfield Testing Center. The FST student will pick one appointment per exam. No more than two certification exams per day.

  • On the day of the exam, the student will present a copy of the email from the state authorizing testing approval, along with their OTC student ID or a Valid unexpired State Issued ID.

  • The FST student will take the exam within the allowable time for that particular exam.

  • The MO Division of Fire Safety will email the test results to the student indicating pass or fail. If the student failed, the email would include information concerning areas where the student was weakest in their answers in order for the student to be able to review that particular material in preparation for their second testing opportunity. Students cannot retest the same day and are encouraged to speak with their instructor before taking their second attempt.

  • If a student fails on their second attempt at a written exam, that student will be required to repeat the course, either at OTC or with a fire department, in order to be eligible to take the exam again.

  • If the student passes, the student will receive an email with a downloadable copy of the certification for which they tested.
