Jessica Gerard
History Instructor

I was born and raised in New Zealand, but I have a Ph.D. in history from the University of London, Great Britain. I married an American and immigrated in 1982.  I have taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Missouri State University and Drury University. My fields of interest are the history of women and the family.  I have two daughters, the second adopted from China, and my resulting fascination with China has developed into my online History of China course, which includes twelve days in China in late May.  I have visited China eleven times so far, and have read widely in the history of China. I love to watch Chinese movies, and read novels set in China, but my efforts to learn Mandarin have not been very successful.
