In 2013, the Honors Program of Ozarks Technical Community College hosted the first OTC Honors Conference on the OTC Springfield Campus. Attended by approximately 30 students, faculty, and administrators from the Honors Program at Ozarks Technical Community College and the Darr Honors Program at Missouri State University- West Plains, the first OTC Honors Conference was a very successful experiment in homegrown student and academic interaction. The initial mission of the conference was for the event to serve as an opportunity for collaboration and exploration as well as academic and social enrichment for honors program students who, for any number of reasons, might not have the opportunity attend a regional or national honors conference. It went so well, it turned into an annual event and we continued to invite additional area honors programs/colleges.
Today, the annual OTC Honors Conference enjoys participation or representation by Honors Program/Colleges from Ozarks Technical Community College, Missouri State University – West Plains, Missouri Southern State University, Drury University, Southwest Baptist University, Missouri State University, and the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Additionally, annual attendance has increased to approximately 80-100 participants. From inception to present day, the conference serves as a student centered, high quality, low cost, local academic opportunity for students to engage in meaningful interaction. The conference is open to any honors program/college and their honors program students.
