Statement:

As an artist, I try to capture the wonder in everyday ordinary moments. My focus on the wonder in banality is deeply connected to my interest in the psychological. I am fascinated with the transition of the psyche from the naive and innocent world of childhood into the skeptical and untrusting realm of adulthood. My work explores this psychological evolution, or de-evolution, through an emphasis on the escapism that can be found in wonder. As a child, I often used reading and film as forms of escape from the arduous transitions of adolescence. The wonder that I found in these other forms of art continues to influence both the subject and the style of my work, as I often use an illustrative style from children’s storybooks.  To say that I make modern day fairy tales would be reductive. But I do try to capture the wonder that I found in my childhood escapes and the wonder that can be found around us all. In capturing that wonder in my art, I hope to provide similar escapes into wonder for others in need of a touch of magic.
