{"id":45896,"date":"2019-12-17T20:11:56","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T20:11:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/academics.otc.edu\/das\/?page_id=45896"},"modified":"2024-03-19T18:16:23","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T18:16:23","slug":"about-the-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/academics.otc.edu\/das\/about-the-program\/","title":{"rendered":"About the Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h1>About the Dental Assisting Program<\/h1>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_cta h2=&#8221;Application Deadline&#8221;]<strong>June 15 (fall start)<br \/>\nOctober 31 (spring start)<\/strong>[\/vc_cta][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_column_text]The OTC Dental Assisting curriculum provides a foundation in the health sciences along with training in the technology necessary to perform the tasks delegated to dental assistants by the <a href=\"https:\/\/academics.otc.edu\/media\/uploads\/sites\/59\/2021\/12\/State-Dental-Practice-Act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State Dental Practice Act<\/a>.\u00a0 Clinical training experiences include working with dentists and their teams in private practices, community centers and at the OTC Dental Hygiene Clinic on the OTC Springfield campus.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Job Outlook<\/h4>\n<p>Students who successfully complete the program are eligible for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danb.org\/Meet-State-Requirements\/State-Specific-Information\/Missouri.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Expanded Function Permits through the Missouri Dental Board<\/a>.\u00a0 Graduates are also eligible to sit for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dental Assisting National Board Examination (DANB)<\/a> to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).\u00a0 According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/healthcare\/dental-assistants.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>, dental assistants will experience a much faster growth than the average job outlook.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;15px&#8221;][vc_column_text]The OTC Dental Assisting program is the only accredited dental assisting program in southwest Missouri that is accredited by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ada.org\/117.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), <\/a>a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education.
