Jessie Wheatley, DHSc MSN RN was born and raised in Malawi, South-East Africa and has lived in many settings around the world.
She started her practical nursing education here at OTC in 1999 and then completed her ASN and BSN at Southwest Baptist University. She also has a Master of Science in Acute Care Nursing Education from Liberty University. Dr. Wheatley recently completed her Doctorate of Health Science with an emphasis on Global Health from A.T. Still University, Mesa, Arizona.
Her areas of research interests include evaluation methods in nursing, community-oriented nursing care, global health, addressing health disparities, chronic disease prevention, infectious and non-infectious disease mitigation, and rehabilitation nursing.
Dr. Wheatley has taught various courses in nursing here at OTC in the CNA, PN and ASN programs since 2005.
She has also served as a panel item-writer and nursing subject-matter expert on the National Council for State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) and NCLEX-RN Examinations.
Dr. Wheatley has authored NCLEX-test questions for private companies, and has conducted RN and LPN comprehensive live exam reviews for Kaplan Inc. across the US.
As a Registered Nurse, she has worked in acute, long-term, educational and clinical healthcare settings as a staff nurse, shift coordinator, nursing administration etc.
