The Health Information Technology Certificate represents medical coding training. Students who complete this certificate are eligible to apply and take the national coding credential exams CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based) administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Some employment opportunities with this certificate are Entry-level staff positions in health information management and physician offices. If you complete this certificate and earn a national coding credential (CCS or CCS-P), your employment opportunities can be (but not limited to): Coding Specialist, Coding Auditor, and Billing Specialist. The Health Information Technology Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program is designed to lead to employment throughout the healthcare industry in areas of data quality management, health information privacy and security, implementation of electronic health records, compliance with payment laws and regulations, health care records and management of health information. Graduates are eligible to apply and take the AHIMA certification examination for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
