David Stone is our Middle College Social Studies teacher. Prior to coming to the program Mr. Stone taught for sixteen years at Central High School. He taught special education for two years before moving into the social studies department at Central. As a Springfield native, Mr. Stone graduated from Central High School in 1990. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in History with a minor in Special Education from Missouri State University in December of 1994. In May of 2003, Mr. Stone received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Missouri State University. During his career as a teacher Mr. Stone has attended the Belfer Conference for Educators at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, participated in the China in Missouri travel program sponsored by the National Council for Teaching Asia, attended the World War I Teacher Conference at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum, attended the U.S. China Relations Gilder Lehrman Summer Teacher Institute along with other conferences and seminars designed to develop master teachers. Mr. Stone is a member of the National Council for Social Studies, Missouri Council for Social Studies and the National Education Association. Mr. Stone is known for his extensive knowledge of history and his ability to convey his excitement to others. Outside of school his favorite activities involve spending time with his wife Krista and two sons Jack and Jimmy. He and his wife enjoy travelling, reading, watching basketball and baseball, visiting museums, libraries, bookstores, and spending time outdoors.
